Help Rancho Obi-Wan continue its mission to inspire with the Force of imagination and get yourself some exclusive swag: Become a Rancho Recruiter!
With a nod to the early days of the Official Star Wars Fan Club and its Rebel Recruiter membership drive, we’re seeking current members’ help to grow our membership.
You can earn some great collectible swag, including a 3-inch pin-back badge, embroidered patch, and T-shirt for your efforts. (See full rules below for details and limitations.)
How It Works To participate, you must be a current Rancho Obi-Wan member. Become a member yourself first.
For each new or renewing member (who hasn’t been a member for at least a year) you refer, or for each gift membership you purchase, you will receive one referral credit. Simply make sure that members you recruit enter your name in the “referred by” box on the membership page when signing up. Gift purchases will automatically be credited to you, the recruiter.
The more credits you earn, the more swag you get:
- Earn one credit and get the 3-inch pin-back badge!
- Earn two credits and in addition to the badge, you’ll get the embroidered patch!
- Earn three credits and in addition to the badge and patch, you’ll get the retro T-shirt in your size!
- Preserving the collection
- Maintaining the museum itself
- Giving free tours to school classes and special groups
- Providing tours as auction items for other charities
The annual $40 fee brings a quality membership kit that includes an annual embroidered patch (and special pin for renewing members), personalized membership card signed by Rancho’s Steve Sansweet, access to the online Rancho gift shop and a 10% discount, and the ability to book a tour of Rancho for any number of family members or friends.
Recruiting: A Star Wars Fan Club Tradition
The Official Star Wars Fan Club was launched in 1978 through a licensee, then brought in-house the following year. The newsletter was named Bantha Tracks in 1979, and it continued publication until 1987, when the club was licensed to Dan Madsen and Fantastic Media. Under their stewardship, the newsletter would become Star Wars Insider. The tradition of sending out annual membership kits kept up through changes of ownership, even after the fan club returned to Lucasfilm and was part of the Hyperspace section of starwars.com. They were both discontinued in 2010.
In 1980, Bantha Tracks instituted the Rebel Recruiter program to increase membership. It offered a pin-back badge with an illustration of a bantha (and later a T-shirt), with a grand prize of an Imperial Walker built by ILM to match the ones used in The Empire Strikes Back.
Our swag, designed by graphic artist Curt Hanks, is based on the original but uses a bantha piñata made in 2004 by Fernando Olvera, which is part of the collection at Rancho Obi-Wan.
Valid only in jurisdictions where such promotions are legal.
A maximum of one badge, one patch and one T-shirt will be awarded to current members for their recruitment activities. The Recruiter’s name must be entered in the “referred by” box on the membership page when signing up in order to receive credit for a referral.
New recruits can include past Rancho Obi-Wan members who have not renewed their membership for at least a year before their new enrollment date or gift memberships purchased by the recruiter.
By taking part in this promotion you agree that any disputes over definitions, timing or other matters will be resolved by Rancho Obi-Wan Inc. at its sole discretion.
If you encounter any problems with the mechanics of the Rancho Recruiter program please email email@example.com.
